This era is marked by the growth of industry and corporate businesses. Business owners took advantage of workers, leading to the formation of unions which previously did not exist. This era was also by marked political machines which illegally controlled the government through bribes.

Nationalism: Nationalism was taken to the extreme in this era. It was shown in the form of nativism, or a superiority over those who were not born in America and do not have American culture.
Perseverance: Those immigrants in the United States found a way to survive in America. They packed into tenement house to have a lower rent and work as much as possible.
Adaptability: Farming was no longer productive and jobs were available in cities. In order to have a profitable life, people flocked to cities and left their old lives behind.
