Changes From the 1920's
The country is no longer in prosperity because of installment buying, high tariffs, and the stock market crash. Children now have to work instead of get an education. People are now dependent on the government to survive.
Core American Values
Nationalism: People stayed proud of their country even in this time of adversity. They remained faithful in their capitalist government and did not resort to communism.
Perseverance: Through though times, Americans struggled to survive. They increased their chances of survival by congregating into cheap and poorly made Hoovervilles. The government helped them there through direct relief programs.
Adaptability: The president during this era, Herbert Hoover, changed his view on the governments role in order to benefit millions of poor Americans. He changed his hands-off ideology into one of direct relief. An example of this is the authorization of the construction of the Boulder Dam.
